Christmas time invokes many mixed emotions and feelings for most people. Christmas used to seem simple. There were manger scenes, gifts, trees, and gathering with your family. Now manger scenes take forever to put together; we opt for the fake Christmas tree, our bank account doesn't seem to be able to sustain all the people we need to buy gifts for, and gathering around with the family sounds like mission impossible. How can we disrupt the predictable patterns and disappointments of December? This Christmas we have an opportunity to participate in A Different December. A December that doesn't focus on what we lack, but allows us to see what Jesus Christ’s arrival means for us individually and the world corporately. Centering our focus on Jesus may not change our circumstances this December, but it will provide us with a pathway to recieve a different hope, peace, joy, and love that we so desperately long for during this season.
